Lauren is a passionate occupational therapist who finds joy in helping others reach their full potential! She believes in the importance of family-centered care, which incorporates the needs and values of the whole family. With experience across the lifespan, she has treated individuals with a variety of diagnoses such as autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, cerebral palsy, Rett syndrome, sensory processing disorders, developmental delays, ataxia, low vision, and various mental health conditions.
Using a neuro-developmental approach in her practice, Lauren focuses on addressing the root cause of functional challenges. She has taken continuing education courses related to bottom-up approaches such as reflex integration, sensory modulation, and cerebellum development.
She holds a Doctorate of Occupational Therapy degree from Midwestern University and a Health Sciences degree from the University of Missouri. Her research has explored Lego Therapy and the impact of siblings on social skill development in children with Autism. With her doctorate, she also has experience with program development.
Prior to joining the Hummingbird Team, Lauren was implementing a life skills program at a community day program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She has led groups related to technology use, meal preparation, money management, home maintenance, and vocational skills. These groups focus on the developmental progression of functional skills and the use of adaptive strategies to maximize performance. Lauren also brings expertise in Home and Community-Based Waiver funding and post-transition services in Illinois.
Outside of work, Lauren enjoys playing with her dog, golfing, and taking on home improvement projects!
