Social Groups: Spring of 2025
We are excited to bring back therapist-led pediatric social groups in the Spring of 2025! These groups will be specially designed to help children develop essential social skills and work on similar goals in a supportive, structured environment. To help us get a better idea of the needs of our families, we kindly ask that you complete the interest form available below. Your responses will allow us to ensure the groups are tailored to best support your child!
Please note, the child does NOT have to be currently enrolled at Hummingbird- siblings, cousins, and friends are all encouraged to sign up and participate! |
About Social Language Play Groups
While one-on-one private sessions are very important to help a child’s social-emotional and communicative skills, we find that there is no better situation to encourage carry-over from a private setting into social situations as social play groups.
At Hummingbird Pediatric Therapies, we don’t advertise playgroups and then have kids sign up for them. We let the children’s needs drive the formation of these groups. We take special care in putting these groups together so that one child’s strength is another ones weakness and vice-versa.
One of the main goals of groups is to empower the child to use his or her communication skills effectively and appropriately with other children. We like to call it the “playground politics” of childhood. By this we mean the social-emotional side to communication…turn taking, making good decisions, understanding feelings and being able to communicate with words when they feel happy, sad, angry, jealous, etc. versus communicating with temper tantrums or just becoming very shy in these situations.
